Defending
When all else fails you can always rely on your sheild to protect you and even stun your enemies. I'll briefly go over how you can defend from each creature in Bastion. But as a rule of thumb, the best time to put up your sheild is when the creature shakes for a moment before attacking. You have to watch closely for it, but once you see it, you'll get the hang of countering.
Squirt- They sparkle before they strike, raise your sheild when they sparkle.
Gasfella- When they raise their pickaxes the arm shakes for a moment, thats the time.
Scumbag- You can let it bounce agaisnt your shield. It is possible to counter by raising your shield right before it impacts, but its difficult to pull off.
Security Turret- Right before the bullet hits you, sheilds up.
Mechanical Pyth- Theres a chance to counter on the first hit but after that, hide.
Pec-ker- It'll dive at you, but before it does it pauses with outstretched wings, thats the time.
Pincushion- Block the first needle but after that you have to keep your sheild up.
Wallflower- Same as the security turrents, block the bullets.
Lunkhead- Theres only a small chance to counter, raise your sheild in the middle of its arc.
Anklegator- Run in a straight line until is pops out. No good way to block with the shield.
Rattle-tail- Same story as the Anklegator, just run until the pop out of the ground.
The Ura- You can block their arrows and sowrds, but the best thing to do is to just hold your sheild up until they attack. Then run at them, raise your sheild again and attack when you close.
