Music guide to Duck Game

Introduction

First of all, if you want to play clean you gotta go to the control settings. There you'll find Jam Button, set it to whatever suits you, you'll have to press it only once after picking up an instrument, so it better be an useless button - I use "home" for example. Now when you pick up some sort of an instrument and hit your Jam button, 13 notes will be assigned to your keyboard. From 1 to 0, - (minus), = (equals) and backspace. 1 is the lowest (C1) and backspace is highest (C2). It's a full octave higher.

You can also play on instruments using a gamepad; holding LT will higher the pitch. The harder you press it the higher the note gets. It's really unefficient and unclean, so you better use keyboard.

If you want to practise i made a map specially for that, here's a link:

Instruments

There are 5 main instruments in Duck Game, and 2 sorta instruments. Those are:

Main:
  • Trumpet
  • Drumset
  • Saxophone
  • Trombone
  • Keytar

Sort of:
  • Quack
  • Book

All differ from each other and are stronger/weaker in some aspects.

Trumpet

Oh my, what a waste. Trumpet is the worst main instrument in the whole game, because it only has 3 notes on keyboard! Remember what I said about Jam mode? It doesn't even work when using trumpet. So to get some sounds you press attack, ragdoll and strafe. It's easier and better on gamepad (still not good!) because you have one additional sound. LB, RB, LT, RT. That's it.
It's one of the hardest to play, and I won't be providing any notes for it later in the guide.

Drumset

It's better than trumpet but not quite best. It has 7 notes on keyboard, and gamepad again wins with 8. I also won't provide any notes for drumset, not my cup of tea. Here are the controlls:

Ragdoll and Strafe - Bass Drums (the big on)
Jump - Hi-Hat
Fire - Snare Drum
Right, Down, Left - Tom-Toms (3 drums surrounding you)
Up - Crash Cymbal
LT (only on controller): Squeezed Hi-hat

Fun fact: if you bash long enough your duck will throw a drumsticks.

Saxophone

Now we're getting to the good ones. Our first instrument to use a Jam mode with full and beautiful 13 note octave. It has an excellent jazzy feel to it and is best for playing a lot of songs. Don't really have much to say about it, just a great instrument.

Trombone

A big boy with a deep sounds, another one with a Jam mode and full 13 note assortiment. Great for playing war melodies. Pairs nicely with saxophone and bass. But I haven't mentioned bass anywhere, right? You'll see eventually.

Keytar

Bread and butter, the holy grail of music. A keytar! It was added more than a year ago in update 1.5, but it still feels fresh because of its 5 modes, which are:
  • Piano
  • Flute
  • Bass
  • Electronic
  • Drums

You can change between them using your strafe button. Like with the others, press the Jam button and you have 13 notes at your disposal. Multiply this by 5 (more like 4.5 because drums actually have less notes).

Keytar is the newest and most complex instrument. It even has a hidden 14 note! It is only accesible through gamepad though. Holding RT will higher your note by one, so 1 will be 2, 2 will be 3 and so on, but backspace will be a completly new one.

It comes in 5 colours and can be damaged, but it doesn't affect the sound of it.

Vocals

And last instruments which really aren't. Plain ol' quackin', everyone knows how to do it, but again gamepad wins with its pitch ability. By holding LT you can higher your voice. If you're really skilled and precise you can actually sing.

Second one is the book which sadly gives of a random low-pitched quack. It can be useful in remixes though.

Double trouble

Yes. You read it right. You can play two instruments at once using power holster. Strap one onto yourself and then grab first instrument, hold up and press grab. Now you have one on your back. Press Jam mode and go for another instrument (you have to press first, and grab later, it won't work if done otherwise).

Some combos:

Trombone and saxophone (a true classic)

Keytar electric mode and saxophone (my favourite)

Keytar electric mode and trombone (orchestra feel)

Keytar bass and trombone/saxophone (deep bass)

Songs

Finally we get to the songs. I made couple of them myself, and couple were given to me by my friend, enjoy!
