[INTERACTIVE MAP] theHunter: Call of the Wild (2026 UPDATED)
Summary
Interactive maps transform your hunting strategy from guesswork to precision. Whether you're chasing need zone animals at specific times, locating outposts for fast travel, or finding collectibles like artifacts and antler sheds across all 16 reserves, map filters let you see exactly what you're hunting for without the noise. Each reserve has its own unique animal roster, terrain, and interactive features that make map knowledge the difference between an empty truck and a trophy room full of diamonds. Filter by species, locations, collectibles, and feeding/drinking/resting zones to plan routes that actually work.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the interactive map filters effectively?
- Start by filtering for a specific animal species you want to hunt. This removes clutter from the map and shows you only the need zones where that animal actually appears. Toggle on hunting locations like outposts or landmarks to identify where you can fast travel or set up your approach. If you're collecting artifacts or antler sheds, use the collectibles filter to locate those items without having to search blindly across the entire map. Save your preferred filter combinations so they load automatically when you return to the reserve.
What's the difference between feeding zones, drinking zones, and resting zones?
- Feeding zones are where animals go to eat at times that vary greatly by species. Some feed at dawn and dusk, but many feed during midday, overnight, or mixed schedules. Check your codex or the interactive map filters for specific species feeding times. Drinking zones appear when animals need water, which varies by species but generally happens in predictable time windows throughout the day. Resting zones are where animals sleep or bed down, usually during midday or overnight depending on the species. Each animal has its own schedule, so the map shows you when these zones activate. Once you know a species' rhythm, you can position yourself at the right zone at the right time for a clean harvest.
Why do need zones disappear from my map?
- Hunting pressure removes need zones temporarily. When you harvest three or more animals while hunting from the ground in the same need zone, that zone vanishes and animals stop using it. If you're hunting from a blind, stand, or tripod, it takes many more harvests to trigger this effect, sometimes 9 or more animals. The bright pink overlay on your map indicates high hunting pressure in that area. Zones eventually regenerate as pressure decreases, so rotate to different areas and return later to refresh them. Managing hunting pressure is key to maintaining productive zones long term.
Can multiple animal species use the same need zone?
- Absolutely. A single need zone can attract different species at different times of day. When you spot an animal in a zone or investigate tracks, that zone gets labeled with that species name on your map, but that doesn't mean other animals won't use it. This makes zone management tricky because harvesting one species in a zone counts toward that zone's pressure total. If you want to maintain a specific zone for one animal, be selective about what you harvest there and consider rotating between zones to keep them fresh.
Which reserves have the most collectibles to find?
- Layton Lake District, Hirschfelden Hunting Reserve, and Medved-Taiga National Park have robust collectible filters showing artifacts and antler sheds. These reserves reward exploration beyond just hunting. Use the collectibles filter on the interactive map to see exact locations without spending hours wandering. Vurhonga Savanna also features artifacts scattered across the terrain. If you're hunting for completion across multiple reserves, filter by collectibles first to plan efficient routes between high-value zones.
How do I find all the outposts and lookout points on a reserve?
- Use the locations filter and toggle on outposts and lookout points specifically. These fast travel anchors are scattered across each reserve and show up instantly on the map. Lookout points are usually positioned on high ground where you get a wide view of the surrounding terrain, useful for spotting distant animals or planning your next move. Outposts serve as hubs where you can rest, save, or adjust your loadout. Exploring all locations on a new reserve helps you build mental maps of where animals congregate and which zones are easiest to access from your preferred entry point.
Do different reserves have different animals?
- Yes. Each reserve has its own roster of huntable species adapted to that environment. Layton Lake District has North American game like moose, Roosevelt elk, and coyotes. Medved-Taiga features Siberian species like Eurasian lynx and musk deer. Tropical reserves like Vurhonga Savanna have completely different animals such as blue wildebeest and scrub hares. If you're hunting a specific species, use the map filter to confirm it exists on that reserve before heading out. This saves time versus fast traveling to a reserve only to discover the animal you wanted isn't there.
What if I can't find a need zone I'm looking for?
- Need zones only appear on your map after you've discovered them by spotting an animal using that zone or investigating tracks within it. Early in a reserve, your map looks empty because nothing is revealed yet. Spend time actively hunting and tracking to uncover zones. Once you've investigated several tracks from a species in a general area, zones start appearing. Some species have rare or limited need zones, so patience helps. Use your GPS device to track animals and investigate their footprints, which gradually reveals the network of zones they use across the reserve.
Can I check the interactive map while in the game?
- Open your GPS device during gameplay to see your current map, but it won't have the same detailed filters as the external interactive maps. For full planning, access the interactive map in a separate window or on your phone before loading the reserve. Many hunters alt-tab or use a second monitor to reference the interactive map while hunting. The external interactive maps are designed for strategy and planning between hunts, while the in-game map is focused on real-time navigation during active gameplay.
